Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) (1985)

The NES is Nintendo’s first proper games console. Before the NES, Nintendo had made game and watch systems. The game and watch systems had the game installed so you could only play one game on it, to play another you would need to buy another game and watch system. The NES was one of the first home video game consoles. Many of the existing consoles like the PS2 are actually based on the idea of the NES. This was a really popular console it has sold millions worldwide and set an example of how a console should be.

Nintendo’s main rival at the time was Sega with its Master System. The NES was a very advanced console for its time. It had a 2kb memory that ran on an 8 bit processor. Accessories for the NES include the Nintendo Max and Advantage controllers, Fitness mat, four score and zapper gun.
